How we analyse travel insurance

We analyse and rate 61 key elements of travel insurance policies to come up with the overall policy score. We assess how important each individual element is to travellers when choosing and using a travel insurance policy, and factor this in when calculating our total policy score.

Initially, we score all of the product elements out of five, reflecting how competitive each provider is in this area compared with other insurers. We then adjust the impact the more and less important elements have on the overall policy score.

This year, the average policy score across all policies reviewed was 63%

Allclear Travel Insurance Products

AllClear Travel Insurance offers travel insurance solutions to travelers of any age for almost any destination. It specializes in covering pre-existing medical conditions, which sets it apart from many other providers.

Travelers taking a single trip can purchase one-shot insurance, while those who travel multiple times per year should consider a multi-trip plan that covers all trips.

You can purchase a single trip policy up to 12 months before your travel is scheduled to begin, with cancellation kicking in right away. You can get an online quote for trips lasting up to 92 days.

Annual multi-trip plans offer 12 months of coverage for all trips within the same region, up to 45 days each. Region means one of the following:

  • Worldwide excluding North America and the Caribbean
  • Worldwide including North America and the Caribbean

  • No age limits. You could be 120 years old and still be covered by AllClear.
  • No pre-existing conditions are excluded outright. If youre having trouble getting a policy with another provider, AllClear might be what you need.
  • Comprehensive cover. AllClear offers comprehensive travel insurance
  • Offers both single trip and annual multi-trip cover. Cover is available as a single trip policy if youre making a one-off journey or as an annual multi-trip policy for frequent travellers.

Cons:

  • Policies can be pricier. Travellers with higher risk generally need to pay higher premiums, but the additional cost is worth the peace of mind knowing that you’ll be covered .
  • You need to fill out a long form before you see a price. While this may take you a few minutes, it’s worth the time declaring all your medical conditions to know that you’ll be covered.

Worst Insurance Company On The Market

AllClear Travel Insurance are firstly underwritten by Insure N Go – not a reliable company. They took five weeks to respond to my email asking to use our cooling off period and said it was ‘too late’ and took our money. Their disregard of customers and rude customer service agents are a disgrace and this company should be shut down. Do not use their products and consider yourself pre-warned. and from Customer Service are who we finally had dealings with and told me to post a complaint to their Dispute Resolution Centre – again, what a laugh in this current day and age that their Dispute Resolution Centre is only available via post!!!!

Why Is There Now An Admin Charge

Trip And Health Travel Insurance In High Demand During These Uncertain Times

AllClear as a business has grown rapidly in more recent years it has seen a substantial increase in the number of queries they have received to change details such as address, destination/region and of course medical changes. This has put increasing pressure on their contact centre as they do handle both on and offline admin changes. In line with many other businesses an admin charge has been implemented for policy change details after fourteen days of inception. At £10, AllClear believe they are at the lower end of the scale for this service.

The majority of admin changes do come within two weeks of purchase and we should emphasise that there is no charge if changes are made within the first two weeks.

There is currently no notification of this on the web. But those people who buy on the web will be told very clearly if they need to contact AllClears contact centre to make a change that a charge will apply. AllClear will be looking into where they could make this visible on the website for further clarity.

Allclear Is Really All Clear

A pretty straight forward website with very clear instructions on how to proceed. The policy choices and requirements are clearly laid out and straight forward to select. It was easy to compare with the details from other sites as the information was presented is a very similar format and order. Although slightly more expensive the cover quoted was of a realistic level for the number of existing medical conditions relevant to both travellers. It will be interesting to see how much the premium increases year on year.

Allclear Travel Insurance: Whats Included

AllClear travel insurance plans include coverage for all ages and most pre-existing medical conditions.

And what exactly is a pre-existing medical condition? Some are considered pre-existing if youve ever experienced symptoms. Others are pre-existing if youve received treatment or exhibited symptoms in the last five years. Its all explained on AllClears website when you get an online quote and answer a brief medical questionnaire.

What about coverage? Heres the key takeaway:

  • Medical expenses up to £15,000,000
  • Trip cancellation and curtailment up to £5,000
  • Baggage and personal items up to £3,000

Looking at this table, you might notice that the AllClear Platinum plan isnt that different from the AllClear Gold Plus plan. But what sets the Platinum plan apart is that none of the coverage limits are subject to an excess . That isnt the case with the AllClear Gold and Gold Plus plans. Excess amounts vary per coverage category, so consult the policy booklet for more information. The AllClear Platinum plan also includes coverage for cruises.
