Premiums And Annual Deductibles

Premiums and deductibles were compared given a standardized applicant profile. The least expensive offering within the study had a monthly premium of $8.95 a month. This plan was Careington 500 Series Dental Savings Discount Card. The most expensive was Nationwide’s Classic 2000 + VSP Premium indemnity dental plan that included additional vision coverage. This plan had a monthly premium of 87.58. Monthly premiums for the Pennsylvanie plans examined averaged $42.05 a month.

Deductibles were inconsistent among plans. Some plans had either no deductible or a deductible that was waived for certain preventive services. For plans charging a deductible, the amount for a single individual was often $50 annually, though there was a deductible as low as $25. There was a single person deductible as high as $150 but this deductible was only charged once and you did not pay it again for as long as you remained enrolled within the dental plan.

Family deductibles were more expensive than individual deductibles, as would be expected. Some plans charged a $50 annual deductible for each family member enrolled. Other plans capped the maximum annual deductible for a family. In some cases, the family deductible was a flat charge while in others it was a maximum number of deductibles . These capped family deductibles were as low as $75 and as high as $450 .

What Does Dental Insurance Not Cover In Pennsylvania

Did you know? Open enrollment for health insurance is still available ...

Dental insurance does not cover aesthetic dentistry, which is the treatment of teeth for cosmetic purposes. Because they are not considered “medically required,” cosmetic treatments are never covered by insurance. Teeth whitening and veneers are examples of esthetic procedures. These therapies improve a person’s appearance rather than replacing damaged teeth.

Types Of Dental Coverage

Welcome to your DeltaCare USA plan

If youve ever navigated the labyrinth that is the U.S. health insurance industry, youll be pleased to learn that dental insurance is much less complicated. When you compare plans, youll usually see 2 unique plan types:

  • Dental health maintenance organizations : When you enroll with a DHMO, youll receive a list of in-network dental service providers. If you want to use your benefits, youll need to choose a service provider who works in your network otherwise, youll pay for 100% of your dental care costs. DHMOs give you the least amount of freedom to choose which dentist you see, but theyre almost always less expensive than PPOs.
  • Preferred provider organizations : With a PPO, you can use your dental insurance benefits with any dentist you like. Though the best dental insurance companies will give you an additional discount if you see an in-network dentist, theres no requirement that dictates who you can see like with a DHMO. PPO plans are more expensive than DHMOs, but they can be worth the extra cost if you already have a dentist you enjoy seeing.

You may also see some companies offer benefit plans or discount plans. These plans offer you a percentage discount on dental services if you agree to see an in-network dentist. They dont actually pay for any percentage of your treatment cost, so they arent technically a form of insurance. In this article, well limit our reviews only to providers who offer insurance plans.
