It functions as an insurance company itself but often has restrictive rules associated with what it will and wont cover. So, be sure its a reputable HCSM and that you read all the rules before participating.
Health insurance discount cards are plans where members pay a fee for discounted healthcare costs. So, you still bear the weight of your medical expenses. However, the program negotiates lower prices to make healthcare more affordable. As with HCSM, be sure to read the coverage agreement and prices before you sign up.

Target Increases Starting Wage Lowers Minimum Hours To Receive Healthcare
To compete in todays tight labor market and support hourly wage workers, retail giant Target announced it is raising some wages up to $24 an hour. Targets hourly wages start at $15 an hour, but the company said it will now pay some workers, including those in stores, supply chain facilities and headquarters, as much as $24 an hour.
Target led the way in 2017 by announcing a starting wage of $15 an hour. Incremental increases brought starting wages to that goal in 2020. Now, workers hourly wages will range from $15 to $24.
Targets minimum wage is already higher than that offered by big-box competitor Walmart, which pays $12/hour as a starting rate. Some Walmart workers receive up to $17 an hour, TheStreet.com reports. Retail competitor Amazon recently raised its minimum wage to $18 an hour.
Sadly, though, these changes arent keeping pace with inflation, according to an article in Quartz. In January, the U.S. Consumer Price Index rose by 7.5%, while average pay for retail workers jumped by 7.1%. Thats an average, though, which sits at $19.24 an hour, according to Quartz. Meanwhile, gas prices have risen by 30% year-over-year, in part due to the crisis in Ukraine.

Target To Drop Health Insurance For Part
Target Corp. said Tuesday that it will stop offering health insurance to its part-time employees because new online health exchanges offer workers an opportunity to buy coverage.
The Minneapolis-based retailer will give each worker $500 to help buy health insurance, and has arranged for one-on-one consultations with benefits manager Towers Watson to help with the transition.
The retailer announced the decision through its online site, A Bullseye View: Behind the Scenes at Target, in a Q& A with Jodee Kozlak, Targets executive vice president of human resources.
In the article, Kozlak acknowledged the disruption to workers. But she said the exchanges might offer options that some workers will prefer, and noted that those who qualify for subsidies and tax credits could find insurance that is less expensive than their current plan offered by Target.
Our decision to discontinue this benefit comes after careful consideration of the impact to our stores part-time team members and to Target, the new options available for our part-time team, and the historically low number of team members who elected to enroll in the part-time plan, Kozlak said.
Kozlak was not available for an interview, according to a Target spokeswoman.
Low participation rate
Target, the nations second-largest discount retail chain, said less than 10 percent of its workforce of about 361,000 participates in the health plan for part-time workers.

Target Team Member Discount
One thing you may have heard about is Targets team member discount. This is a generous discount of 10% off your purchases, and it works both in the store and online.
The discount does have some limitations, like your purchases must be made with cash, check, or pre-specified credit and gift cards. You cant use your traditional credit card, like a Visa or MasterCard, and expect to get the discount.
One great thing about the discount is that it also applies to your spouse and any children who you claim as dependent. So they get to reap that 10% discount too, as long as they follow the rules.
There are other restrictions on what you can purchase with your discount and how to use it, so its best to refresh yourself before making purchases.
