When you sign an AOB, you give up your right to manage your claim and ensure it is resolved to your complete satisfaction. Military & Veteran Assistance

To help with funeral costs, all military veterans are entitled to a free burial in a national cemetery and a grave marker. Spouses and dependent children of veterans are also entitled to a plot and marker in a national cemetery.

For veterans, there are typically no costs for opening and closing the grave, for a vault liner, or for setting the grave marker. The family is usually responsible for other funeral costs such as transportation.

Many states have established veteran cemeteries, but some commercial cemeteries offer discounts for veterans. These cemeteries sometimes offer a free plot for the veteran, but sometimes charge high fees to open and close the grave. Its important to evaluate all of your options before choosing a commercial cemetery.

For non-service-related deaths, the US Department of Veterans Affairs will pay as much as $780 in burial expenses. To receive this amount, the deceased must have been hospitalized by the VA at the time of death. Without VA hospitalization, the VA will pay $300 toward expenses. If you do not plan to bury your loved one in a national cemetery, you could receive an additional $780 plot-interment allowance.

When available, benefit amounts vary and are typically reserved for individuals without the means to pay for a loved ones funeral. Healthy individuals generally pay higher premiums with Lincoln Heritage life insurance but its those with health conditions that are paying a great deal more. People with certain conditions are offered a modified plan through Lincoln Heritage Life Insurance at which point the rates increase dramatically. What Is The Best Life Insurance For Parents

Besides your parent’s overall health, their age is one of the biggest factors in determining what life insurance is best. Different age groups will need to protect different things.

Age 25-40: With younger parents, a term policy usually makes the most sense because you’re looking to protect things like your mortgage and car payments. With term insurance, you tend to have a lower monthly premium and the coverage amounts are much higher because term insurance is primarily used to replace any income a family would lose. The coverage only lasts for a set term and these plans generally require medical exams to qualify.

Age 40-85: Whole life insurance is typically the best option for parents near or after retirement. These policies usually build cash value and do not stop covering you after a certain time frame as long as premiums are paid. Lincoln Heritage sells one final expense policy: Funeral Advantage. Open to applicants 50 to 80 years old, its a permanent policy thats designed to help your family cover your funeral, burial and end-of-life costs. You can buy up to $35,000 of coverage without a medical exam, and the premiums never change.

To apply, youll need to contact a local agent by calling customer service or filling out a form on the website. Then, the agent will ask you to fill out a health questionnaire.

There are three possible outcomes:

Youll be approved for coverage. If youre relatively healthy, you should be approved.

Youll be offered a modified plan. If you have a history of serious health conditions like heart disease or cancer, you might be eligible for a modified plan. This plan has a two-year waiting period, which means your life insurance beneficiaries wont receive the full payout if you die during that time. Instead, the insurer will reimburse them for the premiums you paid.

Youll be denied coverage. You wont be approved in these situations:

  • Youve tested positive for HIV.

  • Youve been diagnosed with AIDS.

  • Youre currently hospitalized.

  • Youre bedridden.

  • Youre receiving hospice care.

All Funeral Advantage policyholders have access to the Funeral Consumer Guardian Society at no extra cost. The organization can help you make arrangements for your funeral or burial, and share those details with your loved ones when you die.
