About Lincoln Heritage Life Insurance Company
Since 1963, Lincoln Heritage has strived harder than any other company to provide the best customer service in the final expense life insurance industry. At the time, final expense claims could take several months to be paid to beneficiary families. The concept of fast claims payment and 24-hour service was unheard of. As such, our founding mission was to set a new standard for prompt, friendly, and accurate life insurance services. Today, we are the national leader in this market because of our commitment to exceptional customer service to our agents and policyholders. We truly believe the customer comes first. Because of this, we have become experts at what we do. Each and every day we are committed to doing a better job of serving you and our other valued customers. The cornerstone of our daily operations is still old-fashioned, personalized service.
For us, exceptional service means live people answering phones rather than computers, processing payment of approved benefits within 24-hours, and providing support to our policyholders families upon their passing. As a family-owned and operated company with representatives in 49 states and over 1 million policies in-force valued at more than $8.7 billion, we dont answer to the quarterly demands of Wall Street. We answer to a higher calling. We take the long view in managing our business, building something of lasting value that we can be proud of today and in the decades to come.

What Is Assignment Of Benefits
An assignment of benefits is a contract between you and a third party typically a contractor, roofer or water mitigation company giving them the right to deal directly with Heritage and receive payment for your claim. When you sign an AOB, you give up your right to manage your claim and ensure it is resolved to your complete satisfaction. In 2019, the Florida Legislature passed common sense reforms aimed at bringing balance to the AOB process. As a result of these reforms, AOB vendors must adhere to certain legal requirements to receive payment for your claim. In addition, policyholders have been given the right to cancel an assignment agreement under certain circumstances and take back control of their claim. Policyholders, vendors and legal representatives can submit AOB-related documents electronically or by mail.To submit electronically, email to

The foundation of Lincoln Heritage has always been built on solid, personal relationships with our field agents. As an agent-founded company, agents are our primary customer. Military & Veteran Assistance
To help with funeral costs, all military veterans are entitled to a free burial in a national cemetery and a grave marker. Spouses and dependent children of veterans are also entitled to a plot and marker in a national cemetery.
For veterans, there are typically no costs for opening and closing the grave, for a vault liner, or for setting the grave marker. The family is usually responsible for other funeral costs such as transportation.
Many states have established veteran cemeteries, but some commercial cemeteries offer discounts for veterans. These cemeteries sometimes offer a free plot for the veteran, but sometimes charge high fees to open and close the grave. Its important to evaluate all of your options before choosing a commercial cemetery.
For non-service-related deaths, the US Department of Veterans Affairs will pay as much as $780 in burial expenses. To receive this amount, the deceased must have been hospitalized by the VA at the time of death. Without VA hospitalization, the VA will pay $300 toward expenses. If you do not plan to bury your loved one in a national cemetery, you could receive an additional $780 plot-interment allowance.
For service-related deaths, the VA will pay up to $2,000 toward burial expenses. For veterans buried in a VA national cemetery, the agency may also pay you back for your transportation costs. To receive reimbursement, you must meet the following requirements:

State & Local Resources
Some states offer assistance programs for families who do not have the means to pay for funeral expenses for a loved one. When available, benefit amounts vary and are typically reserved for individuals without the means to pay for a loved ones funeral. In almost all cases, both state and local funds available to help with funeral costs are given at the local level. In all cases, you must apply and be approved for benefits.

Check For Documentation Of Last Wishes
Check to see if there is a document detailing the deceaseds final wishes. This could include anything from specifics about the memorial service to whether they wished to be cremated or buried.
If the deceased was a veteran, he or she is entitled to Military Funeral Honors at no charge . This can include an honor guard, the folding and presenting of an American flag, and the playing of Taps.
Lincoln Heritages Modified Plan
Healthy individuals generally pay higher premiums with Lincoln Heritage life insurance but its those with health conditions that are paying a great deal more. People with certain conditions are offered a modified plan through Lincoln Heritage Life Insurance at which point the rates increase dramatically. Also, the company doesnt pay out benefits if the person passes away within the first 24 months of holding the policy.
While many insurance companies charge more for certain conditions, few have a list as extensive as Lincoln Heritage.
If youre on heart medication or a blood thinner, youll have to get a modified plan. People receive blood thinners for a variety of reasons, including heart surgery, strokes, heart attacks, and pulmonary hypertension. Unfortunately, once they start on these prescriptions seldom do they get off them. That means you could have a mini-stroke when youre in your 40s and still be on blood thinners in your 60s, leading to higher premiums and wait times with Lincoln Heritage.
Youll also need a modified plan if you have:
- or a myriad of other pre-existing health conditions
In our humble opinion, there really is NO reason why you should ever purchase their modified death benefit product. There are way too many better options for people.

What Is The Best Life Insurance For Parents
Besides your parent’s overall health, their age is one of the biggest factors in determining what life insurance is best. Different age groups will need to protect different things.
Age 25-40: With younger parents, a term policy usually makes the most sense because you’re looking to protect things like your mortgage and car payments. With term insurance, you tend to have a lower monthly premium and the coverage amounts are much higher because term insurance is primarily used to replace any income a family would lose. The coverage only lasts for a set term and these plans generally require medical exams to qualify.
Age 40-85: Whole life insurance is typically the best option for parents near or after retirement. These policies usually build cash value and do not stop covering you after a certain time frame as long as premiums are paid. In most cases, you can qualify without taking a medical exam, even if youve had trouble qualifying in the past. The younger and healthier you are, the lower your premium will be, so its important to lock in a low rate early on in case your health changes. Seniors over 60, and especially seniors over 70 and over 80, pay much higher rates than younger parents.
Lincoln Heritage Life Insurance Policies
Lincoln Heritage sells one final expense policy: Funeral Advantage. Open to applicants 50 to 80 years old, its a permanent policy thats designed to help your family cover your funeral, burial and end-of-life costs. You can buy up to $35,000 of coverage without a medical exam, and the premiums never change.
To apply, youll need to contact a local agent by calling customer service or filling out a form on the website. Then, the agent will ask you to fill out a health questionnaire.
There are three possible outcomes:
Youll be approved for coverage. If youre relatively healthy, you should be approved.
Youll be offered a modified plan. If you have a history of serious health conditions like heart disease or cancer, you might be eligible for a modified plan. This plan has a two-year waiting period, which means your life insurance beneficiaries wont receive the full payout if you die during that time. Instead, the insurer will reimburse them for the premiums you paid.
Youll be denied coverage. You wont be approved in these situations:
Youve tested positive for HIV.
Youve been diagnosed with AIDS.
Youre currently hospitalized.
Youre receiving hospice care.
All Funeral Advantage policyholders have access to the Funeral Consumer Guardian Society at no extra cost. The organization can help you make arrangements for your funeral or burial, and share those details with your loved ones when you die.
